NL 01/ 2011
January 20, 2011
On the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, the feast of our Province, the new Provincial Council has assumed office. We would like to thank you sincerely for reposing your faith in our leadership. While feeling privileged to lead the Province for the next three years, we humble ourselves in recognition of our insufficiency. But we count on the grace of God as well as your cooperation and good will in making some of our dreams a reality.
The Roman Philosopher Seneca said, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Three years back, we made a similar beginning with the then Provincial Council members. Though we cannot boast of extraordinary achievements, I think we have been able to make among other things significant advances in our missionary thrust and self-sufficiency drive. I would also like to use this medium to express my heartfelt gratitude to the members of the outgoing Council for their great contribution and for the pleasant atttitude of cordiality and fraternal charity with which they offered their service for the Province.
The task before us is great as evident from the priorities that we have set for ourselves. In spelling them out we would like to give a direction for our own working together as a team as well as point out what we must as a Province strive to achieve in the coming years. Shortly we will have meetings both at the Local Community and Provincial level to take stock of where we stand at present and to evaluate the progress made in the implementation of the recommendations of the last Provincial Assembly. In these meetings we must also deal with ways and devise means for effective implementation of our plans and projects.
Having set a direction we must begin today. I am confident of your generosity and commitment in our service of the Lord and the work of the Province. May this New Year be a pleasant one for each of us with plenty of surprises and ample opportunities for realizing our dreams! I wish each and every one of you a happy and blessed feast of our founder St. Vincent Pallotti.
Fr. Augustine Varickakal
