                                                                                                                                        28/08/2015

                    Dear Confreres,

Ever since, the last issue of our News Letter has been out, there are a number of events, happenings and incidents have come to pass. Some of them are bypassed already, some exiled into shores of memory, some receded into oblivion but some have withstood the cuts and chops of time. One of the events that resisted the ravage of time was the death of our beloved pioneer Rev. Fr. Manfred Hauck. What can I say at the outset other than may his soul rest in peace. In praise, I would like to say that the grace and fortitude which he relied on, to bid fare well to his beloved parents, dear and near ones before setting sail to India, have stood by him till the end. In gratitude, I would like to highlight the legacy that he left behind as formator, teacher, missionary and companion. I thank him sincerely for all that he rendered to our province. We shall promise him today that the light he lit would live in our hearts and apostolates for the days to come.

The second event that still remains fresh is the first phase of the Canonical Visitation which was completed on 26/08/2015. First and foremost, on behalf of the Provincial Administration, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the communities for the warm welcome accorded and the preparations made to make the visit a spiritual, fraternal and constructive one. We could notice that members are bound by the cords of unity, motivated by a great sense belonging and determined to leave no stone unturned to meet the demands and challenges of the apostolates that they are engaged in. Nevertheless, drawing from the visit, I would like to make two following observations: The first observation is with regard to our daily work. St. Vincent Pallotti speaks of our daily work: “in the Holy Family of Nazareth service to God and prayer alternated with the laborious work...” This statement sets forth two implications. Firstly what service can we offer to God expect listening to Him and claiming our blessedness as child of God? Secondly how can one serve others if he has not served God? Therefore, I would like to remind you of the need for prayer especially the community prayer in our daily work. We shall pray together, discern together and go out as one community bearing witness to Jesus with our specific Charism. The second observation treats the question of inter-personal communication. In fact, we are currently living through communication’s revolution. Most of our members keep in touch with each other through whatsApp, face book etc. However, we need to ask whether these acts of “decoding and encoding” do really serve the rationale of convergence-meeting of human hearts with all its existential burdens-anxieties, worries, sickness and failures and understanding-standing under- that one finds support and a stepping stone till the marshy ground passes by. Let us share our lives with whom we live and shall engage in a process of mutual enrichment and support.

The third event, I would like to refer to is our Provincial Assembly. I appeal to you to participate wholeheartedly in the discussions as you gather in the Local Communities. May our collective consciousness and wisdom give vent to new life and vitality to our Province.

Yours fraternally,
